April 22 - May 3, 2024

Lavender Graduation is evolving into a more accessible, sustainable, and intimate experience. The new way the Gender and Sexuality Center will recognize the academic and personal achievements of graduating UIC LGBTQIA+ undergrad, grad, and professional students will include three components: a digital keynote address, graduate regalia gift, and community picnic celebration.

Digital Keynote Address
Graduates will have the flexibility to stream a recorded keynote address speech. The 2024 keynote speaker is Jacob “Jay” Mueller, the first employee of UIC’s Gender and Sexuality Center, mentor, role model, and advocate for countless students, faculty, and staff over his 30+ year tenure at UIC.

Regalia Gift
All graduates will receive a rainbow tassel and Lavender Certificate; graduate students will receive additional lavender cords. Graduates can wear their tassel and/or cords during their commencement ceremonies. Additional customized gifts will be included.

Community Picnic Celebration
We will celebrate our graduates during the annual June pride picnic, a collaboration with the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of LGBTQIA People.
